We are starting to see some buzz about windows phone 7. From what I can tell iphone still has the smoothest user interface. Meaning, iphone touch screen is more responsive than all other smart phones out there. Another plus, is that you can download your music from itunes right from your phone.
Downside to iphone is the AT&T is my opinion charges too much.
The best alternative to the iphone is an android phone, like mytouch from t-mobile. The plans are MUCH cheaper and you can connect up to your laptop and browse the web from there or VPN into corporate intranet while on the road at no extra cost unlike AT&T, which makes you pay an additional $40 something.
Thats my two cents on smart phones.
